From The Fire

I have been going through a lot of really ridiculously bad luck lately. I took a break from everything one day and sat down to make something that I hoped would be worth selling to make some extra money.

I had my smooth Bristol paper ready, and I started with pen- just regular Copic multiliner ink pen, nothing too special. I decided I wanted to use watercolor pencils, so I busted out my Staedler watercolor pencils. After a while, I realized my red pencil was going to be sad and quite abused if I kept going, so I got out my sample tubes of Blick watercolors and filled in the rest. As I kept going, I also used Golden acrylic, Prismacolor pencils, and Prismacolor NuPastels. The background is a brown ink wash, greyed with some more white pastel. For added oomph, I highlighted his brow, crown, cheeks and wing with Golden interference violet (which means you don't really see the color unless the light hits it right). The scan doesn't do him justice.

All in all, I am thrilled with the outcome and he helped me overcome not only my ongoing art block, but my negative thoughts.
